Pratt Community College has cleared another hurdle on the path to construction of a new track and soccer field facility just east of the Green Sports Complex.

The PCC Trustees got an update on the $3.5 million project during their regular monthly meeting Jan. 14 at the college.

The closing price on the value of the bonds will be Tuesday, Jan. 29 and once that has been set, bonds can be issued for the project, said PCC President Michael Calvert.

Construction on the facility is expected to start in March with a completion date sometime in October or November, depending on the weather, Calvert said.

On January 7 the city of Pratt approved the Bond Ordinance and Resolution that would allow them to sell industrial revenue bonds for the project. The college doesn’t have the authority to issue industrial revenue bonds so it is being done through the city.

Although the city is issuing the bonds, they have no financial obligation for the bonds, Calvert said. The college has secured $800,000 in grants and donations so it will take $2.7 million in bonds to cover the rest of the cost. The college will pay back all bond money.
