Parsons city commissioners on Monday will consider approval of an annual $22,000 subsidy to support the Municipal Swimming Pool.
The city owns the swimming pool but the Parsons Recreation Commission operates it under a yearly maintenance agreement, which the commission also will consider during its regular Monday evening meeting.
Gary Crissman, recreation commission director, presented the commission information on the finances of the pool for 2018 during a Thursday afternoon work session.
Last year was the first in at least several years that the public pool operated in the black, Crissman said, although the city did help with the subsidy and other expenses for a total of $24,548.
The pool brought in $63,518, including the amount from the city, during the 2018 season and spent $52,113 for a net profit of $11,405. In 2017 the pool made $40,545 and spent $47,480 for a loss of $6,935.
Crissman credited the two days of half-price sales on season passes for the increase in revenue as the sale of family season passes nearly doubled. Concession sales also increased because of the increase of the number of people using the pool.
