Wichita Police say even though they got multiple calls about bomb threats across Wichita on Wednesday, the threats do not appear to be serious.
"All I can tell you is that we’ve received phone calls to 911 to reference threats that were made. Bomb threats that were made," said Paul Cruz with Wichita Police. "And at this point we have determined these threats have been unfounded."
In Marion County the Hillsboro Community Hospital got a threat. Reno County Sheriff, Randy Henderson says Hutchinson Police are dealing with a bomb threat.
The common thread in the calls to 911 include emails where a threat is made. Still, investigators are not ready to say if any of the threats are tied together at the local level.
"And we are still working with our federal partners to investigate this case," said Cruz. "We don’t know yet if it is tied to anything else."
While the five bomb threats called in to 911 in Wichita are not considered real, police say they have to investigate.
" We believe this to be some type of email scam that is going on so as we continue to investigate we are going to let you know," said Cruz. "But at this point we just want to let the public be aware that these threats are unfounded. No need to be alarmed."
