MacDonald Golf Course won’t be sold after all.

In a unanimous vote on Monday, Wichita’s Park Board decided to reject the only offer it received to purchase MacDonald Golf Course. The offer, submitted by GreatLife Golf & Fitness out of Kansas City, was for $850,000.

In October, two representatives from GreatLife, which owns Tallgrass Country Club, attended an informational meeting at MacDonald in response to a request for proposals that went out for the 146-acre, 18-hole course at 840 N. Yale.

A special selection committee tasked with studying and offer recommendations for any proposals that came in advised the Park Board to say no to the offer from GreatLife. Eddie Fahnestock, a Park Board member and a member of the committee, said the purchase price was paramount in the decision to urge the board against a sale.

“We feel the golf system can be sustainable if we can continue to improve our overall efficiency in terms of marketing and operations,” Fahnestock said. “We need to make necessary capital improvements to entice golfers to play and stay. With the number of golfers in Wichita, we felt we would be directly competing for rounds and revenue if we accepted this proposal.”
