The city of Salina is interested in hearing from residents, commuters and interested persons on what should be done to slow traffic on North Ninth Street to make it safer for pedestrians.

The Ninth Street corridor is a major gateway into the city of Salina. Recent efforts to improve this corridor include overlaying the street, removing trees, replacing sidewalks, landscaping yards and repairing homes.

Reducing traffic speeds is a concern expressed by several North Salina residents because of the residential character of the neighborhood, and the need for pedestrians to cross Ninth Street to access the bus stop, the convenience stores and the library.

The existing four-lane street was striped as a two-lane roadway this summer in hopes of reducing traffic speeds. The city performed traffic speed studies as a four-lane street before Ninth Street was overlaid with asphalt and performed speed studies after the roadway was overlaid and re-striped as a two-lane roadway.
