To err is human. To really louse things up requires a computer.

Neosho County Commissioners met Friday morning with the county clerk, treasurer and appraiser over errors in hundreds of tax statements sent out at the end of November.

Commissioner David Bideau initially said 1,800 statements had errors, but Appraiser Bob McElroy said up to 8,000 were flagged with issues that could be errors. The commission spoke with a representative of the county’s software supplier by conference call, and other department heads were present for other items on the agenda.

County offices have been in a lengthy process of training and conversion from the old software to a new program supplied by CIC. At one point Bideau said his voice was raised to be heard on the conference call with Joe Morris of CIC, but his displeasure was also evident.

“You need to send a team of about 10 people to Neosho County to get this fixed,” Bideau told Morris. “What time will they be here this afternoon?”
