Blowing or raking leaves onto city streets is prohibited in both Winfield and Ark City, but that doesn’t stop people from doing it.
Area resident Jim Bossi called the CourierTraveler recently about the problem.
Bossi, of Ark City, said he’s seen a lot of residents rake leaves off the curb into the street.
“I think a lot of people just don’t realize it clogs up the city sewer system,” he said. City Manager Nick Hernandez said this this week that the city does have a rule against pushing leaves into the street. Winfield does, too.
But the cities don’t strongly enforce that law, preferring to encourage people to comply rather than issue fines.
