Winfield chief search on hold

The search for a new Winfield police chief is on hold until a new city manager is hired, interim city manager Brenda Peters said Wednesday.

Because the police chief is hired by the city manager, a search cannot commence until a permanent manager arrives, Peters said.

The closing date for applications in the city manager search is next week. Since the city commission still has to review applications, interview candidates and make an offer, the police chief search isn’t expected to get under way until next year, Peters said.

Advertisements for the police chief job have not been placed yet, Peters said.
