At their regular meeting on Monday, commissioners approved a quote from R&S Digital Services, Inc., for population mapping of the county. In addition to studying the population, R&S will create three scenarios, which will separate Greenwood County in five equally-populated districts while keeping in mind “equal population, compactness, contiguity and maintenance of communities interest.” Based on the 2010 census, Greenwood County’s population is 6,161. Divided by five, each of the districts should represent approximately 1,232 people. Federal courts have viewed population deviations of 5% as the standard for redistricting. For Greenwood County, this would be approximately 62 people.
