The city has received a trio of proposals for the design and construction of a planned new downtown ballpark.
According to a news release, the proposals were received before Wednesday’s deadline, though the firms involved in the bids were not named.
Using STAR bond monies and funds from a TIF (tax-increment financing) district, Wichita plans to build a $70-plus million multi-purpose stadium on the footprint of Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, which is scheduled to be razed before year’s end. According to the city, the three proposals came from “highly-reputable firms.” The proposals will now be reviewed by a team of six that will make up a ballpark oversight committee. The committee, which is scheduled to conduct interviews of members of the proposal teams, will be made up of three representatives from the city and three representatives from the Baby Cakes.
