Wichita police allowed our cameras to record one of its mandatory training focused on helping co-workers who are struggling.

The training is called, “Duty to Intervene.”

Officers are taught how to step in when they see a co-worker struggling in their work or personal life.

“We want officers to go out there, do the right thing, make the right decisions and if they see somebody struggling, see someone getting worked up, they’re going to be the first to know,” said Sgt. Kenneth Kimble with the Wichita Police Department.

Kimble said officers are often the first ones to recognize the signs of distress because they work with one another for 10 hours a day on a daily basis.
