The South Hutchinson Police Department is taking a step further in decreasing opioid abuse in Reno County by installing a drug drop box at the police department.

Residents may now take unused and unwanted drugs to the department, 10 E. Blanchard, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday to safely dispose of them.

“We are excited to offer a year-round drop off for citizens and hope to make a greater impact in curbing prescription drug abuse in our community,” state South Hutchinson Police Chief Mark Thompson in a release.

The department partnered with Reno County Communities that Care, which wrote a grant to provide funding to purchase the box. Communities that Care is an organization that promotes positive behaviors in youth and works to reduce underage drinking and drug use in Reno County.
