The demolition of a city-owned building in downtown Leavenworth has started.
The city purchased the building at 301 Delaware St. in August for $52,500.
City officials purchased the building with plans to tear it down. With the building demolished, officials hope to find a developer for the site.
City Manager Paul Kramer said the city already has a couple of leads that will be explored.
“If those don’t come through, we will probably look at some sort of active marketing of the location,” he said. The building is located at the same intersection as a new hotel and a recently refurbished cinema.
