Chanute commissioners negotiated Tuesday evening with a manufacturer interested in repurchasing the building at 615 W. Cherry, and will consider action at next week’s meeting.
Jim Caldwell, owner of Hi-Lo and Bridgewood Custom Cabinets, said he wants to attend an auction next week to purchase equipment for the plant, which would expand the Bridgewood operations. Caldwell is making an offer of $400,000 to purchase the 615 W. Cherry building from the city. He is also requesting incentives of a reduction of dollar-for-dollar for equipment purchased for the building, and $5,000 for each new job created. He said after Tuesday’s special commission meeting that the job creation incentive is similar to one offered to Xcursion pontoon boats.
