The Kansas City, Kan., police department has received a $700,000 grant designed to support innovative policing programs, a federal prosecutor’s office announced on Tuesday.
According to U.S. Attorney for Kansas Stephen McAllister, the grant was made to the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kan..
McAllister said the grant comes from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Project Safe Neighborhood program, which is a centerpiece of the Justice Department’s strategy for reducing violent crime. This week marks the one-year anniversary of the revitalized Project Safe Neighborhood program.
“This money will help police test promising crime prevention strategies aimed at reducing violent crime in targeted areas,” McAllister said in a news release.
