Augusta City Council discussed the completion of the construction on the Dalton Palmer Memorial Downtown Park.
City Manager Josh Shaw advised that the recent rains had caused a 10 day delay, but additional crews assisted in getting the work done.
The mulch has been installed, but the Council decided the long term goal would be to install a rubberized surface.
Shaw shared that the wood fiber requires a small drainage system and timbers have been purchased, but in keeping with the long term goal of a softer surface, he asked if Council wished to proceed with the installation of the timbers or proceed with a concrete wall/curbing under fencing that will be needed for the soft surface.
Council consensus was to install the concrete.
The park will be open to use this weekend during Augusta’s big 150th Birthday Party, and the official ribbon cutting will be held on Friday, Oct. 5.
