Mayor Jeff Longwell and Vice Mayor Bryan Frye are hearing a lot of suggestions these days of potential names for the Triple-A Minor League Baseball team that will occupy the new ballpark that will be replacing the venerable Lawrence-Dumont Stadium at Maple and McLean. “I’ve heard so many great, creative imaginative names,” Frye said. “Wichitans are really pulling out all the stops. I like to think I’m a creative person, but I haven’t found one that I’m ready to push forward yet.

He has some time left. The team isn’t due to arrive in Wichita until 2020 at the earliest, but already, the town is talking about what to name it.

Clearly the team’s current name, the “Baby Cakes,” isn’t going to cut it.
