The Wichita Police Department steps up to support its community’s schools by raising almost $3,000 for school supplies.

The “Community and Cops School Supply Drive” started small with a few officers wanting to help the community they serve.

The effort soon grew and as word spread, businesses started to chip in donations of their own.

“(I) can’t tell you enough how proud we are of these officers and the dedication they have for their community,” WPD Public Information Officer Paul Cruz says on behalf of the department.

The officers divided the supplies between four elementary schools in the Wichita school district: Colvin, Adams, Clark and Jefferson.

The Colvin Elementary School principal says the supplies were needed and are going directly into the hands of the students.
