The City of Wichita is taking action to repair more than 40 percent of its poorest-condition residential asphalt streets.
Thursday, the city says it is receiving about $1 million more than it did last year for street maintenance. The city is also using $10 million in proceeds from its 2016 sale of the Hyatt Hotel for the work on Wichita streets. The money will go toward fixing nearly 207 lane miles of neighborhood roads, the city says.
The city says there will be a two-step approach, starting with workers going out to asphalt roads in poor shape, cutting out chunks and fixing cracks. It says workers will then put another coat over the top of the repaired surface.
