Neosho County Commissioners approved a five-year plan for solid waste at a 15-minute meeting Thursday evening.

No one made comments during the public hearing portion of the meeting on the plan prepared by committee at the end of June. The five-year plan will be revewed annually in May.

Neosho County owns and operates a drop-off station and landfill east of Erie for municipal solid waste and construction and demolition. Commissioners have discussed the fact its landfill operates at a loss, but said Thursday’s action was a separate issue. The plan mentions a possibility of closing the C and D landfill near Erie to only two days a week instead of the current five days, or closing it completely.

Chanute operates its own landfill. Green Environmental Services takes trash to the Allen County landfill near LaHarpe.
