U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Elaine L. Chao announced the Federal Aviation Administration will award $659.8 million in airport infrastructure grants, the second allotment of $3.18 billion in the Airport Improvement Program funding.

The grants include a $5.09 million award to Dodge City Regional Airport for runway reconstruction. “The bids for the reconstruction were done in three phases,” Dodge City Regional Airport Manager Corey Keller said. “The first two phases were awarded grants in 2017 and this recent grant we received will be for the completion of phase three.”

The reconstruction of the runway is set to be completed by November 2019.

According to Keller, 95 percent of the funding came through grants by the FAA.

In total the reconstruction project came to $12,059,651 with the FAA covering $11,436,669 and the city of Dodge City matching funds with $602,982.
