The Derby Recreation Commission, City of Derby and USD 260 are proposing a partnership to put a new LED sign on the southwest corner of Woodlawn and Madison.
It would fall on the same intersection as Firestation 81, which is currently under construction. The proposal would split the cost between the three entities, giving each a $16,700 bill.
USD 260 superintendent Heather Bohaty and City of Derby communications director Kristy Bansemer presented the information before the school board at the July 9 meeting. Bohaty shared that discussion began at the intergovernmental meeting on June 25. The sign would be two-sided, facing north and east.
“We could use it for announcements whether it be no school or upcoming conferences,” Bohaty said. “It gives us an opportunity while people are driving to have one more form of communication.”
The two other signs, which are located by the high school on Rock Road and on James Street next to Rock River Rapids, are run by the communication staff of the city. Bansemer said that the city is currently updating their LED sign guidelines to reflect the addition of a new sign next year. It also would be built to the same specifications of the other screens at 4×8.
