The proposed redesign of the city of Topeka’s flag is an initiative being proposed by Forge, but it fits in with the community’s focus on building pride in Kansas’ capital city.
“Topeka’s brand is essentially morphing right now. We’re in the process of figuring out exactly what it is that Topeka’s going to be five years from now, because of Momentum 2022, but also beyond that time frame,” said Leo Espinoza, a board member of Forge, Topeka’s young professional group.
He spoke Friday morning at Heartland Visioning to explain why it may be time to replace the current green and gold flag that bears the city of Topeka seal.
It is time, Espinoza said, to think about the city’s flag, a symbol meant to unite the community.
“When you think about any geographic area, you think of the symbol that unites that area and, of course, that’s most commonly the flag,” Espinoza said. “With Topeka, specifically, we think the flag would be a fantastic way for the community to come together in light of all of the development taking place, in light of all the excitement that surrounds all the projects that are happening.”
