Police in Overland Park are investigating an arson after fireworks were used to destroy parts of a city park on Wednesday.

The damage occurred at about 10:53 p.m. at Sapling Grove Park.

Restrooms and a structure at the park were damaged.

Witnesses say they saw five men running east from a shelter at the time of the fire.

Authorities say the fires were sparked by fireworks and estimate the damage to be nearly $20,000.
