A growing population means changes for Garden City’s hospital as, for the first time in years, its emergency room is getting a makeover.
More than 18,000 visitors come through the doors at St. Catherine Hospital each year and the hospital says it was time for a change.
“We have to grow with the population,” St. Catherine COO Joben Rieth says. “So one of the things that we were seeing is our ER volumes were growing about 3 to 4 percent in every year. So we knew we needed to make changes in processes, our flow and also, just update the department itself.”
The last time St. Catherine’s emergency department saw any renovations was in the late 1980s. Hospital administration say changes to the emergency room have patients feeling more welcomed. The remodeling comes with a new computer system to help the ER run more efficiently.
