Penny Postoak Ferguson, county manager, has appointed Maury Thompson as deputy county manager. He has served as the interim deputy county manager since January 2018. Prior to that, Thompson served as assistant county manager beginning in January 2013. The new position is effective Aug. 26.
“I am pleased to serve our organization in this capacity and look forward to continued work with our approximately 4,000 employees who strive daily to provide the highest quality programs and services to the residents of Johnson County,” said Thompson,.
Thompson began his career within the organization at Johnson County Developmental Supports (JCDS) in 1986, serving multiple roles. In 2001, he left to serve as executive director at Tri-Valley Developmental Services in Chanute, Kansas. There, he served as president of the Chanute Area Chamber of Commerce and Office of Tourism (2004), as a member of the Chanute City Commission (2005-06) and as mayor of Chanute (2006-07).
